Released in 2001, the 70-200mm F2.8 L IS USM delivers the same exceptional level of optical performance as the EF70-200mm F2.8 L USM, launched in 1995, which won strong support among professional and high-end amateur photographers. The IS unit utilises improved holding for the barrel of the supplementary optical system that provides smoother movement, achieving image stabilising effects equivalent to approximately three stops. Additionally, the EF70-200mm F2.8L IS USM is equipped with a compact, lightweight, high-performance vibration gyro that, combined with improved signal processing circuits, makes possible image stabilisation within approximately 0.5 seconds upon pressing the shutter button halfway. The lens also employs an optical design offering compatibility with digital SLR cameras and utilises an optical system made entirely from environmentally friendly lead-free glass.
